The Pound Civil Justice Institute was established in 1956 by a group of American trial lawyers to honor and build upon the work of Roscoe Pound (1870-1964). Pound served as Dean of the Harvard Law School from 1916 to 1936, and is acknowledged as the founder of the discipline of sociological jurisprudence. Through its programs, the Institute works to give lawyers, judges, educators and the public a balanced view of the U.S. civil justice system.

What's New
- The Pound Fellows' Reception will be held at the 2012 AAJ winter convention in Phoenix, on February 12, 2012, 6:00 - 7:30 pm in the Terrace Court of the Arizona Biltmore Resort and Spa, Phoenix, Arizona. It's an informal cocktail reception at which Pound Fellows get together to renew old acquaintances and learn about the latest Pound activities. Pound Fellows who pay dues at the Supporting ($550 annually) or higher levels will be listed as sponsors of the Fellows' Reception on our announcements and signage.
- Pound's 2012 Forum For State Appellate Court Judges (an invitational event exclusively for actively sitting state appellate court judges), is scheduled for Saturday, July 28, 2012, in Chicago, Illinois. The topic will be the court funding crisis.
- The Founding Lawyers and America's Quest for Justice, by Stuart M. Speiser, is Pound's latest publication, and is available for sale. Complimentary copies are available to the judiciary.
